Kristin contacted me a couple of weeks ago about her upcoming wedding. I’ve known Kristin since early high school, so I was really looking forward to being able to cover her wedding! We met up beforehand to catch up and also so I could meet her fiance Kevin. They’re a great match together, and I had a great time catching up on all the latest with them. We set a date fir their engagement session, which was later delayed due to the constant afternoon rain that Houston’s been having lately. Finally on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the clouds parted enough for us to make it out to Hermann Park to shoot the engagement set.
It was a really fun time shooting, mostly because of their willingness to follow along with whatever weird photo idea I had as we were walking along the paths of Hermann Park. “Climb into some overgrown grass in heels and a dress and sit down? Sure!” Kristin’s sister Jamie kept their dog Sawyer nearby as we shot, and he made sure that all shooting areas were duck-free which was much appreciated.
The light began to soften and become nice and long as we climbed up onto the hill near Miller Outdoor Theater. With a little bag of chicken bits, Jamie and I persuaded Sawyer to sit still with the save-the-date sign around his neck for just a few moments while we got a great shot that they’ll use for their invites and save the date mailers. I was amazed that it only took a few tries to get the shot, Sawyer was very willing to help as long as he was bribed quite often.
As the sun set, we walked down to the base of the hill and set up a small picnic area complete with a basket, wine, cheeses and books. We got some great shots in the waning light and finally moved to the Sam Houston statue at the front of the park after the sun went down for one final shot. Setting up with a flash behind the couple, we got a really nice back-lit shot to close out the set.
This was a really fun set for sure, possibly aided by Kristin bringing some “liquid courage” along, haha. They were both easy and fun to work with, willing to try pretty much anything out to get a cool shot! I’m really looking forward to their wedding on April 6th!
The entire set is available at the online gallery linked right below. Everyone can order prints directly from that page, and they will come sans watermark.
Thanks again Kristin and Kevin, and I hope you love the photos!
