Got the call last week about a last minute session for Bonhams with a very interesting mix of cars. A gorgeous white-on-red 1956 Chevrolet Corvette, an extremely low mileage 2006 Dodge Viper with a NBA Hall of Fame vinyl wrap, and the “old man” of the group, a 1950 Chevrolet 3600 Pickup. The cars were tucked away in a small warehouse with a sizable number of other exotics, completely nondescript to passerby save for twin fat streaks of rubber on the pavement immediately after the driveway.
As is the norm for these shoots, I was unable to move the cars very far from the location where they were stored, so it took some creative use of angles and light to polish up the otherwise drab industrial area. I chose to shoot the Viper in a nearby gritty loading lot, which I felt worked best with the raw, brutal nature of this beast. The 3600 Pickup was shot against a deep red wall of a nearby restaurant, which offset the deep blue paint on the truck very nicely. Saving the best for last, the Corvette was shot in the soft light of sunset, with some nearby trees blurred nicely into the background.
After the set, it was time to head back to the office to crank out all the images in less than 24 hours – a long night for sure! Keep an eye on Bonhams Greenwich Auction which begins June 1st for the results as these beautiful machines find new homes!
