A few weeks ago I got the chance to shoot two All-American icons here in Houston. Although they come from the same family, these two are very different animals. The GT500 has become more of a refined beast over the years, although calling it so may still be against the rules. Still no slouch to 60mph (4.1 seconds), the 2011 GT500 had a weight savings of over 150 pounds thanks to a new all-aluminum engine block. Even with its live rear axle, the car handles crisply and cleanly. The blue-on-white paint job is perfect for this car, and the white shows the sharp lines that make this generation Mustang so aggressive.
In contrast, the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning sticks with the “old way” of doing things. Shoehorn a hammer of an engine into a small, relatively light bodied vehicle for immediate point-and-shoot speed, providing that you’re in a straight line of course. With horsepower/torque numbers coming in at 380/450, this truck is a monster that runs the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds. Love it or hate it, you cannot ignore the lightning – and especially love it for that reason.
Enjoy the photos!
