This past Saturday, I met up with Chelsea and Troy at Hermann Park to shoot an engagement set. After a few reschedules due to weather and other circumstances, we were all excited to finally get out to the park to shoot! Chelsea and Troy are a great couple, very easy to work with and laid back. Being Memorial Day Weekend, the park was completely packed, and we had to work diligently to find places where there would not be any other people in the frame!
We started around 6 p.m., slowly walking around the park and looking for good light. Hermann Park is one of the very few photogenic places in Houston, and it wasn’t very hard to find some nice back lit areas that were bathed in nice, golden light. I used a gold reflector to aim sunlight back into their faces and keep a nice warm glow on the couple to match their surroundings.
As we approached the lake from the side, we caught a glimpse of a rainbow forming in the mist of the fountain in the middle of the lake. We hurried over to the water’s edge and snapped off a few shots with the rainbow. The polarizer I was using with the 80-200 2.8 really made the rainbow pop! It was a great capture – I don’t think I’ve seen an engagement set with a rainbow in it yet!
With such great light, the shoot only lasted for about an hour, and we were soon wrapped up and ready to head home. It was a great, relaxing shoot and I had a great time with Chelsea and Troy. Congrats to them both!
