Another great turn out at this month’s Houston Coffee and Cars! I actually made it out on time this month, arriving right before 8am, the smell of freshly burned fuel rising into the air as all of the supercars began to pack Vintage Park’s parking lot to the gills.
Exotics basking in the morning sun.
Most cars parked neatly in rows by their respective make and model, some evev by color! I first saw the long row of beautifully detailed Acura NSX’s upon walking into the lot, all of them shining in the sunlight. The NSX has a timeless design that never seems to grow old, and is sure to make it a classic in the future.

Further on down the line was row upon row of classic and vintage cars, my favorite being a jet black Camaro that had been completely updated and restored with all modern electronics an finishes. It was like a brand new car!
Walking into the Italian and other European exotics section definitely got the pulse racing a little bit. Lamborghinis were seemilngly a dime a dozen, stretched from one end of the lot to the other in a long pearlescent string of saturated colors. Right up front sat twin 2008 Ferrari F430 Challenge Stradales, both red with black stripes running down the middle.
Across from them, on the curb, was a brand spanking new 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale (a mouthful, isn’t it?), looking like a red hornet in the hazy morning light. I loved the matte black painted “gills” covering the engine and the carbon fiber accents strewn all over the car. No detail was left untouched by rich red paint or glossy woven carbon fiber.
Three vehicles down sat the legendary Ferrari F40. With its fiberglass rear cover raised, the true intentions of this car were made known. The Ferrari F40 is little more than a fiberglass body set upon a lightweight chassis which is strapped to an enormous twin-turbocharged V8. A gnarled mess of tubes and radiators, the engine bay is all go and no show, dutifully keeping racing performance at the forefront of the vehicle’s uses.
That’s when I saw the star of the show…the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. Nestled in between an Audi R8 V10 and a bright green Gallardo, the Lambo Aventador’s pearl white paint gleamed in the morning light. Bristling with acute angles, creases and lines, the Lambo looked like an evil surgical instrument. Its 6.5L V12 was briefly fired up, emitting a baritone howl that you could feel in your chest. The interior was laid out like a fighter jet, comlete with a red hinged cover that hid the start button, and the Aventador’s evil intentions, apparently. The Aventador was truly a car to be savored in person. While it may look great in the photos, they truly cannot do the car justice. Lamborghini has pulled off an extremely aggresive style, while still remaining dignified and beautiful – no easy feat.
Nearly the whole event, a graphite gray E30 M3 was noisily rolling around the lot, nearly tucking its BBS wheels under its fenders. It was a great looking car, and I seem to have a big soft spot for BMWs of this time period. It is retro styling that was well executed and ages very well. Some day I would love to own an E24 M6!
Right before the end of the event, I spotted two Noble M12’s sitting side by side, hidden from all the other exotics in the lot. These cars are enormous underdogs in my opinion, and while not built up to the same standards as your typical exotic, are very beautiful. Making power by way of a twin-turbocharged variation of Ford’s Duratec V6, the M12 puts out up to 500hp in some variations, complete with a 3.2 second 0-60 time aided by the featherweight body components.
As the cars began to slowly exit the park, I grabbed a few shots of the Aventador leaving. Looking extremely menacing creeping towards me, the Lambo grumbled down the drive into the street, allowing me to grab a few panning shots. I used one as a composite, which I think turned out very well!

Once again, Houston Coffee and Cars did not fail to disappoint. Growing larger and larger each month, it is becoming the premiere exotic car meet in Houston, and possibly the United States. I can’t wait to see what is brought out next month!
