Last Weddings of 2011!

I just wrapped up the last two weddings of the year and wanted to share them with everyone before New Year’s Eve tomorrow!

First was an awesome wedding which combined both African and American traditions. It was very refreshing to experience a different style wedding. Both the bride and the groom had deep Nigerian roots, and both parents had come all the way from Africa for the wedding! Dressed in colorful pagne, or celebratory robes, the members of the wedding party made for a colorful bunch!

The bride and groom had a great idea of a shot of them looking down Main Street in Houston, and I was more than happy to oblige. Arriving just at sunset, we ran out into the middle of the street amidst all the traffic and trains (watch out!) and shot a few images, one of which is below. It turned out just as I imagined, and I know it will exceed their expectations!

Below are a few more favorites from the set. Enjoy!

The bride, literally 30 seconds before walking down the aisle. I still think that unposed shots like this are the best kind!

Great details at the wedding reception.

Delicious paella at the reception! There was also traditional Nigerian food like stewed goat!

And a shot looking down Main Street in Houston at sunset. Love this shot!

Next up was the first traditional Jewish wedding that I’ve ever shot! It was a bit different when compared to what I was used to: the bride and groom see eachother before the ceremony, and group shots were all taken before the ceremony as well. Because they would be seeing eachother before the ceremony, I wanted to create a “moment before” shot where they were holding hands and anticipating what the other would look like. It came out great, and you can see it below.

The reception was one of the most fun times I’ve had as a wedding photographer. The traditional Jewish songs and dances were all so energetic and fun, complete with the hoisting of the bride, groom and both sets of parents onto chairs as they are held above everyone’s head and paraded around the room! The venue was beautiful and was one of the places that definitely helps the ambiance in your photos!

After a long reception filled with dancing, singing and conga lines, the bride and groom exited in a shower of white rose petals, thus bringing my year as a wedding photographer to a close. I am very excited for what the future holds in 2012 and look forward to photographing many great weddings, all different and exciting in their own right. Please enjoy the photos below, and I will see everyone next year!
