I second-shot a wedding this weekend at the swanky Hotel ZaZa in the Houston Museum District. Hotel ZaZa has taken the building formerly known as the Warwick Hotel and thoroughly modernized it, giving everything a very rich and decadent feel. Accent lit chandeliers hang from the ceilings and photos of nearly every celebrity you could think of adorn the walls on every floor.
The wedding and the reception all took place in the Fountain Room, which had a long, skinny “shotgun” layout. The room had a very nice warm feeling with red and gold Chinese lamps hanging from the ceiling.
The hotel, although beautiful, had its quirks. Terry, the groom, was relegated to a room that was really a glorified closet – making the “getting ready” pretty difficult to pull off with the primary shooter, myself and a videographer also in the room. Luckily, the bridal suite was much larger and more comfortable. Patricia, the bride, rushed around preparing for the day while her friends moved with her in a flurry of excitement. The beautiful diffused light coming through the windows, courtesy of a white building bouncing the sun’s light into the room, created some great shots.
The ceremony went off without a hitch, and we moved the bride and groom out to the nearby Mecom Fountains to get a few dramatic shots. The light was perfect, with the sun coming through the trees to the west and creating a great backdrop for the couple. While we were out, the service team at Hotel ZaZa quickly and efficiently transformed the area for the reception while the guests conversed in an adjacent room. The food was delicious (especially the salad pictured – almost dessert-like!) and everyone had a great time eating, drinking and dancing.
Congrats to Patricia and Terry!
On to the photos!
I love this shot of a man doing the “YMCA”, which is best viewed at a larger size
