I was contacted by marketing representatives from Tesla Motors earlier this week, asking if I would be able to cover the grand opening of their brand new Supercharging station about 75 miles west of Houston in Columbus, Texas. I was able to move some existing appointments around for this exciting event, and headed out at 7am on Wednesday morning for Columbus. The third of five proposed “Supercharging” stations slated for Texas by Tesla Motors, these bays deliver 480 volts of electricity, and are capable of charging a Supercharging equipped Tesla vehicle in 30 minutes or less. The process is just as simple as a regular gas station: back your Tesla into a stall, open up the charging door on the rear driver’s side, and plug in the charging port. The instrument screen then pops up, showing the amount the car is charged, and the time remaining until full.
Tesla owners are a tight bunch, and many drove from Houston and even Austin for the event. There were probably about 20 Tesla S’ in all, and it was great going from owner to owner asking their experience firsthand. Many share the same sentiments that the Tesla S is a game-changer, and that Elon Musk and Tesla are quickly chipping away at all of the excuses people have had in the past for not purchasing an electric car. KHOU was there to cover the story as well, which you can see below. Watch for a bonus shot of me at 2:26…I’m basically famous now, haha.
I have since been asked by Tesla Motors to cover the rest of their openings in Texas, and hopefully more events later on. It’s exciting to be involved with a car company doing such new and exciting things, and I hope to be able to share more with you all soon!
This will be the shot used on Tesla’s website for the Columbus Supercharger. Exciting Stuff!
